Lesson 10 of 14 · Building · 3 minutes

Memory: forgets, remembers this chat, remembers facts

An oven itself remembers nothing. Each time, GrannyBakes decides what to send along with your message, and that's what we call a baker's memory. You choose it in step 6 of the baker wizard, "Memory & knowledge".

Three memory modes

Each memory mode is a trade-off between remembering more and paying less.

Forgets after each message

Only your new message is sent. Every message starts fresh, so it's the cheapest. Perfect for one-shot jobs like "write a caption for this photo". Say "My name is Ana", then ask "What's my name?", and it won't know.

Remembers this chat

The whole chat so far is sent with every message, so the baker can follow a conversation. Each message costs a bit more as the chat grows. When a chat gets very long, Granny shortens what's sent (see the context window lesson).

Remembers important facts across chats

Remembers this chat, and also keeps a notebook of important facts about you and your business, used in every new chat. Tell it "I run a bakery called Bella's Cakes" once, and next week, in a new chat, it still knows.

After each reply, the cheapest oven your key can use reads your message and notes facts worth keeping. Each new fact shows up under the reply with Undo, and every fact is on the baker's Memory page, where you can change or forget it. Private details hidden by the privacy filter are never written into facts.

Granny's rule of thumb: use "forgets" for one-shot jobs, "this chat" for conversations, and "facts" for a helper you talk to every week.
